Feeling Stuck in Your Freediving Progress? Here’s How to Move Forward!

Last weekend, I went canyoning with my family. It was an incredible adventure - thrilling, beautiful, and yes, challenging. While abseiling down a waterfall, my belay device got wedged between two rocks. With cold water pounding on my head and no way to move up or down, I dangled there for over ten minutes! Panic started creeping in.

I knew I needed help.

In the end, my husband and a friend managed to pull me up just enough to free the belay device, allowing me to continue my descent. Maybe you can relate to my experience. Maybe you feel stuck and unsure of how to progress with your freedive training.

So, how do you get unstuck?

In my experience, there are two solutions:

  1. The Self-Exploration – If you’re highly self-motivated and willing to commit to a long process of trial and error, you can take the path of self-exploration. It’s a rewarding journey (I’ve taken it myself), but it demands patience, time, and resilience. Sometimes, you have to metaphorically “cut the rope” to free yourself, which can be risky and scary!
  2. The Guided Path – Alternatively, you can ask for help, get feedback, and learn how to structure a plan. This doesn’t mean skipping the hard work—it still requires consistency and effort—but it’s a much faster, smoother, and more enjoyable journey. With the right guidance, you can avoid common mistakes and accelerate your progress while being part of a supportive community.

Self-Exploration vs. The Guided Path: Finding the Right Balance

Self-motivation is a fantastic trait - it builds resilience, curiosity, and independence. But if you truly want to unlock your full potential, learning from experienced freedivers and coaches can be game-changing.

Think of it like this: Imagine pushing a massive boulder up a steep hill. You could do it alone, but it would be slow, exhausting, and full of setbacks. Now, imagine having someone beside you, helping guide the way, sharing the load, and showing you a more efficient path. You still have to put in the effort, but your progress is faster, more purposeful, and far more rewarding.

Whether you’re just starting out or years into your freediving journey, I encourage you to explore both paths. Learn on your own, challenge yourself, but don’t be afraid to seek guidance when the time is right. You might be surprised at how much further - and deeper - you can go.

That’s exactly why I created NO FINS, NO WORRIES - the first comprehensive online course designed specifically for DNF. 12 weeks long, it provides a path for freedivers with a structured plan to self-discovery in DNF, along with access to a global community of like-minded freedivers, all working together to improve.

This isn’t just another online course. It took me a full year to film and refine because I refused to compromise on quality. You won’t just learn DNF techniques—you’ll learn how to overcome strength and mobility limitations, structure your training plan, and truly listen to your body.

Essentially, you’ll become your own coach, equipped with the knowledge to progress in any discipline, not just DNF.

While access to the Community is open for a limited time, you can start your journey today with No Fins, No Worries Level 1, which includes the full course and allows you to progress at your own pace. And if you ever feel stuck - like I did between those rocks in the canyon - you can always reach out for help and upgrade to the full community experience.
